During the July 4th promotion, Stephen C. visited our Austin showroom with a primary goal of refurnishing his bedroom and a secondary goal to find some new living room seating. He immediately fell in love with the BDI Linq bedroom collection, as well as the Tate Chair.
Stephen wanted to purchase the Linq collection and Tate Chair for his bedroom but was concerned about space limitations – he wasn’t sure if there would be space for the Tate after the Linq set was placed.
After learning about the client’s challenge, Austin Design Expert Phil Orr took matters into his own hands. He created a custom floor plan once Stephen provided room measurements, which confirmed that the Tate Chair would not fit in the client’s intended space. Phil quickly pivoted and decided to show the client other pieces that would fit his taste, needs, and space requirements.
“I knew that he was looking for a sofa for his living room and that he loved the combination of black finishes with walnut wood,” says Phil. “That’s when I showed him the Sabrina Sectional paired with the Tate Chair and the Serif Laptop Table in walnut.”
Stephen was enthusiastic about this new plan, falling in love with the Sabrina and deciding to let go of the Tate. The Sabrina Sectional posed some additional space challenges that Phil tackled with a bit of creative thinking.
“His living room was way too small for more than a sofa, because he lived in a high-rise condo,” Phil explains. “However, I immediately put the Sabrina in a plan and showed him that it would work if he placed his piano from a different angle.”
By using Floorplanner to show the customer how new pieces could fit in his space if an existing element was simply laid out differently, Phil and Stephen reached a satisfactory solution.
“He had me write the sale after we determined the correct configuration,” says Phil. “I even went as far as making the Sabrina smaller with a special-order option. But he loved it so much that he just decided that he would make the stock version work. He was super grateful to me for helping!”
After this sale, Stephen returned and bought a Corridor Media Stand and a Reveal Coffee Table to round out his new living room. We love how sleek and cosmopolitan the furnishings look against the stunning city views from the floor-to-ceiling windows!
